Dr. Ernsberger grew up on a family beef farm in northern Indiana. He participated in FFA, 4-H, High school athletics and academic organizations. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Purdue University, where he worked on the University beef farm to help pay for his education.
Upon graduation, Dr. Rich entered private practice, with emphasis on food animal medicine, doing reproductive herd health programs and developing preventive medicine programs for dairy and beef farms.
After thirty-two years in private practice, Dr. Rich moved to the industry side veterinary medicine. He worked for Animart, an animal health company with an emphasis on calf health / nutrition and the immune system in the bovine. While at Animart, he worked with large dairies, calf growers, the veal industry and beef producers to develop antibiotic protocols and on farm procedures.
In May 2013 Ernsberger joined Westway Feed Products as a Technical Support Manager. Today, he continues to work with calf health, fetal programing, epigenetics, and benefits of colostrum and its long-term effects on growth, health and production.
In his spare time, Dr. Rich trail rides with his wife Linda. They ride Rocky Mountain horses, because of their great disposition and smooth gait. Dr. Rich also enjoys spending time with his grandson and two granddaughters.
