The Science of Liquid Feed.
A cow’s rumen is populated by micro-organisms and bacteria, which ferment forages and other feed consumed by the cow. Liquid feed enhances the ability of the rumen microbial population to digest forage; thereby increasing the fiber digesting capacity and efficiency of the cow.
Because of this, supplementation of a forage diet should primarily target the needs, not of the cow, but the rumen microbes.
For most forages in the US, the first limiting nutrient will be crude protein. Rumen bacteria require crude protein / nitrogen to grow and be able to digest fiber. Westway Feed Products’ liquid feed supplements can provide crude protein to help accomplish this.
